By car: Newhailes is 6 miles south-east of Edinburgh city centre, just off the A1 at the Newcraighall junction.

By bus: Lothian Buses 30, 26 and 44 and First Buses 140 and 141 stop near the property.

By train: Newcraighall Station is a 20-minute walk from the estate entrance.

By bike: Newhailes is close to the National Cycle Network Route 76. Bike racks are available.

We strongly advise that you pre-book before travelling. If you do not pre-book, we cannot guarantee entry to the house.

Farmers’ markets

These take place on the third weekend of every month and feature a fantastic selection of stalls.

Dogs welcome

Where can my dog go?

We welcome dogs in large parts of the grounds, including the woodland, field parameters and fields in Lodge Park.

Our 86-acre estate is the perfect place to explore with your four-legged friend. However, please bear in mind that we have working farm fields on the estate. Please keep your dog on a lead if agricultural equipment is being used in the fields.

Well-behaved dogs on a short lead are welcome in the shop, café and stables courtyard.

Where can’t my dog go?

We allow assistance dogs only in the house. Please make sure your assistance dog is wearing their identity harness. Please note that dogs are not allowed in the playpark or market garden.

What do I need to be aware of at Newhailes Estate?

Pick up after your pup: bag it and bin it to keep your favourite places beautiful.

Keep a lookout: for information signs and vehicles or machinery on site.

Be aware: not everyone loves dogs, so keep them close by.

Clearing up

Please help to keep the estate lovely by picking up after your dog. There are waste bins located in the car park, at both entrances and inside the gated visitor area.

Facilities available for my dog

We have water bowls outside the café and playpark. Dogs are welcome inside the café on a short lead, and there is also outdoor seating by the café within our Stables courtyard.

Car park

There’s very little shade in our car park, so please don’t leave your dog in the car on a hot day. Don’t forget – you can take your dog into most of the grounds and across the estate, so there’s no need for them to miss out.

Parking is £4 per day per vehicle for non-members (charges apply at all times).
Free parking is available for members with a valid car parking sticker.

Picnics

Picnic tables are provided near Weehailes Playpark and near the stable block.

Play area

Weehailes, our adventure play park, has been specially developed for younger children and is themed on the Newhailes story.

Weehailes is designed for children aged 3–12 but children aged 0–15 are admitted.

All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult aged 16 or over. An adult can supervise up to 6 children. We can admit a maximum of 2 adults per child.

Please note dogs are not permitted in the playpark.

The visitor centre, shop, café and toilets are all on one level.

Both the indoor and outdoor seating areas in and around Weehailes playpark are accessible for wheelchair users.
