    Go on a minibeast hunt, learn how to build a den and make a bird feeder. We've got lots of amazing and fun filled outdoor activities to do this Easter.

    Nature Activity Day One Minibeast Hunt Natural Bird feeder making Natural art Nature Activity Day Two Den building Water filtration Non traceable fire lighting The activity days are for children from 7 upwards and are run by the on-site Ranger Team. This event is very popular therefore online booking is required.

    Children should be dropped off at Newhailes Estate car park and should bring out-door clothing, shoes and a packed lunch. A Certificate will be given to children for attending either day. £15 per child per day.

    Nature Nippers is a fun and educational group for 1- 5 year old's, the group take place each month with a break in July.

    4 May - Minibeast hunt We will be hunting Minibeasts at Newhailes, then there will be arts and crafts to finish. 8 June - Pond dipping party (Inveresk Lodge Garden) Discover all the wonderful creatures in the pond with the book teeny weeny. 3 August - Little Homes for Nature places The little homes for little people we will making little homes in the woodland, learning all about the nature of the woodland and learn all about fairies… 7 September - All about Birds We will be looking and learning about the birds at Newhailes, you will also be able to take away a Natural bird feeder made with an apple ? 5 October - Woodland Art Session Time to make Newhailes Woodland colorful, be prepared to get messy

    Environmental Conservation and outdoor skills group is aimed at young adults, from 12 to 16, interested in learning more about nature, outdoor activities and conservation skills.

    19 May Outdoor Task followed by a small fire for hot chocolate and marshmallows. 16 June Learn how to run a survey of wildlife. 18 August Keep Newhailes Tidy helping clean up Newhailes estate plus a survival skills session afterwards. 15 September Getting involved in an onsite bat survey, afterwards we will go out on a bat walk around Newhailes Estate.

    £5 per session or £20 for the 4 sessions

    Join us at Newhailes for a ranger led walk through the Newhailes estate.

    During the walk the ranger will talk about the wildflowers growing on the estate and tell you more about the stunning designed landscape of Newhailes.

    If you have ever wanted to know the difference from a common and soprano pipistrelle bat then this walk is for you?

    Details

    Join our Lothian Ranger for a fascinating talk on bats, you will also have the chance to use a detector to find bats using echolocation sounds. You will learn about where bats have roosted and the ranger will be on hand to answer any questions you have. Our walk on 25 August is in celebration of International Bat Night, which takes place on 26 August.

Discover 300 years of Scottish history through this magnificent and carefully conserved neo-Palladian villa. Newhailes is famed for having some of the finest rococo interiors in Scotland.

There are sumptuous decorative details at every turn, from the gilded eagles over the drawing room windows to the exquisite Chinese wallpaper and imposing Italian marble fireplaces.

A major part of the house’s charm is its mellow feel. Newhailes has been allowed to grow old gracefully through a pioneering conservation policy which does ‘as much as is necessary, but as little as possible’ to keep the house in good order without disturbing its ‘untouched’ atmosphere.
