2 Events at Kellie Castle & Garden

  • Sculpture Workshop

    Dates:Sat 4 Jun Location:Kellie Castle & Garden

Where better to have an enjoyable introduction to sculpture than the wonderful surroundings of Kellie Castle, former home of famous Scottish sculptor Hew Lorimer?

We are delighted to welcome back professional Sculptor Kenny Munro. This is your chance to work under his expert guidance in a fun introduction to working with clay. No previous experience of working with clay is necessary. Whatever you make, you will take home with you to impress your friends and family.

During the busy and creative day we will be focusing on making clay sculpture portraits, approximately life size. Clay, support frame and tools will be supplied. Consider ways in which you can prepare in advance:

    • Think Heads: Think of the way we look at people and recognise one another. There are many options: Self portraits, friends or family!

    • Think also of the great history of portraits / sculpture inspired by world cultures, as well as on historic buildings, churches and ancient temples.

    • Think of the fantastic and stretch your imagination. Observe, take photos and create sketches on paper or card. Decide on the ‘subject matter’ for your ‘sculpture head’ before you come to the workshop. Reference books and the internet may help.

Wear suitable clothing, something that you don’t mind getting messy, you may wish to bring an apron with you. At the end of the day your sculptures will be photographed and then you take them home to be admired by friends and family.

Price includes materials, tuition, lunch and a tour.

Kellie Castle in Fife dates from as early as the 14th century and has magnificent plaster ceilings, painted panelling and fine furniture designed by Sir Robert Lorimer.

It also contains a long-concealed mural by the celebrated Arts & Crafts pioneer, Phoebe Anna Traquair. The grounds and garden could easily be a day out in themselves, with acres of woodland walks, a bird hide and an abundance of nature.

The Arts & Crafts garden is packed with beautiful borders of old-fashioned roses and herbaceous plants, as well as fruit and vegetables – all grown organically.

Seasonal events throughout the year give you even more reasons to join us for a memorable trip into Scotland’s past.
