An exhibition by Alison KinnairdDetails
"Glass has a very special character. It is both dangerous and vulnerable, both common-place and precious, and has a purity and spiritual quality which is unlike any other medium. It seemed the ideal medium in which to comment on the fragility of human life in war."Join us for this special exhibition of Kinnaird's haunting display of nameless glass soldiers. They are not soldiers of any historical period - their clothing is based on modern army uniforms, but rendered in a somewhat abstract style so that they represent a universal soldier. Young men, each of them somebody's son, brother, husband or father are sent in our name, into dreadful situations. Alison Kinnaird was last year's invited artist at Pittenweem Arts Festival and is returning to the area to showcase her work inside Kellie Castle.

Kellie Castle in Fife dates from as early as the 14th century and has magnificent plaster ceilings, painted panelling and fine furniture designed by Sir Robert Lorimer.
It also contains a long-concealed mural by the celebrated Arts & Crafts pioneer, Phoebe Anna Traquair. The grounds and garden could easily be a day out in themselves, with acres of woodland walks, a bird hide and an abundance of nature.
The Arts & Crafts garden is packed with beautiful borders of old-fashioned roses and herbaceous plants, as well as fruit and vegetables – all grown organically.
Seasonal events throughout the year give you even more reasons to join us for a memorable trip into Scotland’s past.
