Discovery trails for three age ranges (from toddlers to teens) turn this fascinating property into a fully interactive experience for a family day out. Knowledgeable guides (dressed in full period costume on Saturday afternoons during July and August) in every room are on hand with a wealth of stories, to answer questions and help children hunt down the clues and make discoveries about what life was like for both rich and poor.
To really bring the house to life for children, there's also the Gladstone's Land Wee Guide, a book which shows what life would have been like for Gledstanes’ young son and daughter.
School groups get an even more 'hands-on' experience, with access to the handling collection in the education room and the opportunity to dress up in authentic clothing of the day.
