The Eisenhower Hotel at Culzean

In November 1945 General Eisenhower was invited by the Kennedy family of Culzean to accept the tenancy of a specially created guest flat on the top floor of the castle. General Eisenhower and members of his family stayed here several times and also lent it to friends.

After his death, the National Trust for Scotland and Scottish Heritage USA, a charitable corporation that has provided valuable support to Culzean, opened the apartment to a wider public. It is now a unique venue for corporate and private hospitality and is also one of the Trust’s flagship holiday properties.

Holiday Accommodation

There are also four self-catering holiday lets within Culzean Country Park and each has its own character to suit different needs:

Situated in the west wing of the castle with its own private entrance with nearby parking, The Brewhouse Flat comfortably sleeps four people. With the sitting room window looking out over to Arran, Brewhouse is somewhere to sit back and relax.

Originally utilised as servants’ quarters, The Royal Artillery Cottage was occupied exclusively, following World War II, by disabled ex-service personnel from the Erskine Memorial Hospital. The cottage has recently been refurbished and now provides excellent facilities for both disabled and able-bodied guests alike. Situated within the cobbled Clock Tower Courtyard next to the castle, its position on the cliff edge gives fine sea views from each of the comfortably furnished rooms.

In 1891 we know that 14 people lived in the Segganwell Cottages. Nowadays, North Seggenwell and South Seggenwell each provides comfortable accommodation for 4 people. They are in a spectacular setting, right on the beach below the Visitor Centre - an ideal location for families with young children. The Segganwell Cottages can only be reached by a steep stairway of over 100 steps so are not suitable for mobility-impaired people.
