    Join us to carry out the national Big Garden Birdwatch here at Castle Fraser.

    We will be here from 10.30am and will count from 11.00am- 12.00pm. The watch takes place in the bird hide in the Log Cabin, near the walled gardens Dress warmly and check our website the night before in case of cancellation due to bad weather. Free drop in event, books to look at and simple crafts to make. Sharp eyes required! All welcome to help us contribute to this national count.

    Dust off your robes and join us at Castle Fraser for a night of Harry Potter magic.

    Join us at Castle Fraser in your best robes for two nights of wizarding fun at our Harry Potter Book Nights! Due to the amount of interest we will be holding a family night on Thursday 2nd February and a night for over 16's on Friday 3rd February. We'll kick the night off with a sorting hat ceremony to find out your Hogwarts House. There will be crafts, games and quizzes to test your knowledge. We'll have a storyteller on Thursday evening to inspire the next generation with the magical story we all fell in love with. Snacks and drinks will be available for a donation. We'll have prizes for the best dressed witch or wizard. Please note there are limited tickets for each night. Tickets are free of charge.     The Easter bunny has hidden clues at lots of National Trust for Scotland places!

    Collect your hunt map, follow the clues, solve the puzzle and claim your chocolatey reward! Each hunt is completely different – the perfect excuse to hop along to more than one! Here at Castle Fraser we have a fun filled 3 days planned for the whole family! Start off by using your detective skills to solve our clues on the Cadbury's hunt to claim your chocolate prize. Take part in our egg and spoon race and our bunny hop tattie sack race!! Bring along your hard boiled egg to decorate with paints, glitter, feathers and googly eyes and race them down the bank. We will have catering vans on site for some yummy food too.

    £2.50 per hunt (Usual entry prices apply if you’d like to visit the castle) Please note that the trail will be outside this year; weather permitting. Alternative plans will be made for bad weather. Children aged 3 and over - £2.50, Adults & Children under 3 - FREE

Castle Fraser is an atmospheric baronial castle dating back to the 15th century and was the ancestral home of the Fraser family. As you venture through the castle and up to the round tower, with its panoramic views of the gardens and estate beyond, you get a sense of life from the medieval to the Victorian period.

Although the main castle was completed around 1636, there were several 18th and 19th-century alterations. To a large extent the story of Castle Fraser is the story of its lairds. It retains the atmosphere of the family home with portraits, furniture and mementos.

Highlights include the Great Hall dating back to the 1400s, a library filled with family books, and the grand Worked Room featuring 18th-century embroideries. The estate has two easily followed trails taking you through a mixture of parkland, farmland and woodland, opening out to give views of Bennachie.
