Local artist, Iain Halket, will lead workshops during the Enchantment stage of Giants in the Forest.
Held during the last week of May, pupils will explore the natural area around the Giants before contributing art work to large-scale crochet banners on the site.

Scotland's Gardens Open DayLeith Hall Garden & EstateDates between : Thu 30 May - Thu 29 AugAn open day & series of evening guided tours with the Head Gardener in support of Scotland’s Gardens.
This attractive old country house, the earliest part of which dates from 1650, was the home of the Leith and Leith-Hay families for more than three centuries.
The west garden was made by Mr and The Hon Mrs Charles Leith-Hay around the beginning of the twentieth century and the rock garden has been enhanced by the Scottish Rock Garden Club.
In summer the magnificent zigzag herbaceous border and serpentine catmint border provide a dazzling display. The fern garden and rose garden are not to be missed. From the Moon Gate visitors will enjoy breathtaking views of Leith Hall over the garden and beyond. Be sure to explore the park and woodland walks as you are accompanied by wildflowers and delightful birdsong. A lot of project work is ongoing in the garden including a rose catenary along with large borders being redeveloped in a Gertrude Jekyll style and a Laburnum archway with spring interest borders.

The Mediaeval Tower at Drum is undergoing essential conservation work throughout 2013. Alice in WonderlandCrathes Castle, Garden & EstateDates between : Fri 12 Jul - Sat 13 JulChase the White Rabbit, join the Red Queen for a game of croquet and take your place at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, all in the beautiful setting of Crathes Castle's Walled Garden.
After climbing through the looking glass, Alice and her friends will find themselves in the Walled Gardens. Come and meet Alice and some of your favourite Wonderland characters who will be in the garden. You may find yourself part of the Caucas Race or listening to Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum's riddles. Join the Mad Hatter's Tea Party and the Queen of Hearts as she plays croquet, but be careful not to make her angry as it may be "off with your head!"

So send your children to have a swell time putting on their very own production of ‘Treasure Island’. Arrrrrrgh! The children will be in charge of stage management, acting, singing, dancing, artwork, publicity and production. At the end of the 3 days their friends and families will be saying “Shiver me timbers” when the children show off their work. Even if your child doesn’t want to act, they will be fully included. Join HLF/ICON Conservation Intern Anna Zwagerman as she explains the considerations that have to be planned for when protecting thousands of historical volumes during such a project, including a rare glimpse of the Library wrapped up.
The Mediaeval Tower at Drum is undergoing essential conservation work throughout 2013. During this period the Tower will be cloaked in scaffolding and sheeting and rooms within the Tower, including the Library, will be closed to the public. This series of talks explains why the project is taking place and what NTS do to conserve such important structures. Craigievar Castle has been a Conservation challenge from long before it has been in the care of the Trust. earlier work included repairs to the ceilings and many attempts to keep it dry. It is not surprising that this work has continued over the last 50 years. This talk will focus on three parts of the place and the work undertaken to ensure its care. The Harling, The Ceilings and the Barmkin Wall.

In the town of Titipu flirting has been made illegal. The penalty is death. Too bad then that the main culprit is the Lord High Executioner Ko-Ko, who wishes to marry his beautiful young ward Yum-Yum, and who has no intention of executing himself. So when Nanki-Pu arrives in Titipu and declares his love for Yum-Yum, Ko-ko has the perfect candidate for execution. Except that Yum-Yum, by tradition, would have to be executed with Nanki-Pu. And Nanki-Pu turns out to be the Mikado's own son. And the Mikado himself is about to arrive on a state visit to Titipu....
This wonderful comic opera, although set in Japan, is very much a parody of British politics, institutions and public life - and although written in the 19th century is surprisingly relevant in the 21st! It gets the complete Illyria treatment, faithfully performed by a reduced cast and accompanied by a Musical Director on keyboard.

Scotland's Gardens Open DayPitmedden GardenSun 18 AugGet behind the scenes at Pitmedden in support of Scotland’s Gardens.
The garden's staff will be on hand to offer a unique opportunity to glimpse behind the scenes at how this amazing garden is cultivated so beautifully.
The garden was originally created by Sir Alexander Seton in 1675. Elaborate floral designs in parterres of box edging, inspired by the garden at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, have been painstakingly re-created by the Trust to evoke 17th century designs for visitor enjoyment.
Fountains and sundials make fine centrepieces to the garden, filled in summer with a mass of 40,000 annual flowers and the fragrance of a succession of blooms. There is also an herb garden, herbaceous borders, beautifully wall trained fruit, a rose garden, a wildlife garden and views from the terraces take in the sumptuous planting.
Pitmedden offers inspiration and variety across the seasons.
On your visit, be sure to walk along the pleached hornbeam to the museum of farming life which presents a vivid picture of the lives and times of bygone days when the horse was the power in front of the plough. Beyond the walls there is an enchanting woodland walk leading to a nature hut with information of the wider estate, ponds and a lime kiln.
After touring the gardens, round off your day with a game of boules and a picnic lunch!
