Autumn Dunkeld lies within Perthshires Big Tree Country, the surrounding wooded hills and adjacent wooded riverbanks provide a stunning backdrop to the town they as they take on their autumn colours. The town is an ideal base from which walkers of all abilities can explore the surrounding countryside using the extensive local footpath network. The mighty River Tay flows past the town providing opportunities to watch not only salmon fishermen in their boats drifted past, but occasional salmon leaping clear of the water.
Winter December is an excellent month to visit Dunkeld in the search for those special Christmas gifts, maybe timing your visit with Dunkelds annual pre Christmas event which includes a visit by Santa and his reindeer! Dunkeld is an excellent base for a number of fantastic winter walks on the extensive local footpath network.
Spring The beauty of Dunkeld’s built heritage is greatly enhanced in the spring as the surrounding natural heritage burst into life. Surrounding woodlands full of fresh green growth, have carpets of wildflowers including bluebells. A walk across the magnificent Thomas Telford bridge and down the steps by the old Toll house, takes you to trust property along the banks of the River Tay, the path offers some great views and is at its best in the spring.
Summer Dunkeld is a picturesque town steeped in history, where you can enjoy a stroll up Cathedral Street past the little houses so carefully restored by the trust, explore the Cathedral and it’s grounds, go down one of the Wynds that lead to the river, or perhaps visit one of the extraordinary range of shops including the Trusts famous Ell Shop. While Dunkeld bustles with visitors in high summer, there are always plenty of quite corners to sit and soak up the wonders of this amazing little town.
