Mingulay, Berneray And Pabbay
|
A trip to these islands is a real adventure; in the summer basking sharks and dolphins can sometimes be seen from the boat. If you are lucky you may be able to sail down the west side of the islands to view the towering seacliffs and pass through the natural rock arch. It’s a good place to view seabird colonies; particularly razorbills and puffins. On Mingulay there is the opportunity to wander through the old village, last inhabited in 1912, and imagine how life was on the island. There are beautiful sandy beaches on Mingulay and Pabbay. These islands are a perfect day-trip to get away from it all.
Spring – throughout March and April the seabirds arrive back to nest - razorbills, puffins, kittiwakes and fulmars.
Summer – a good time to look for basking sharks and seals in the surrounding waters and catch a glimpse of a golden eagle soaring on the thermals. The wildflowers are in bloom.
Autumn – by September most of the seabirds have returned to sea, in October the seals haul up onto the beach to have their pups.
