Weaver's Cottage
|
During the summer, cloth from the loom was made into a jacket for one of the key participants in the village festival, Lilias day. We will now weave a length for Habbie Simpson, a 17th century piper who comes alive on Lilias day, and after whom all who were born in the village have been called after! This is an opportunity for the Trust to participate in a unique community project. Young “Habbies” will get a chance to throw the shuttle and wind a few pirns on the old loom used by their ancestors. The finished cloth will be given to the tailor who will make the full 17th century costume. Come the first Saturday in June 2007 , Habbie Simpson’s costume will have a real connection with weaver’s of the past, present and future.
