Weaver's Cottage
|
During the summer of 2007, cloth from the loom was made into a jacket for one of the key participants in the village festival of Lilias Day. We then wove a length for Habbie Simpson, a 17th-century piper who comes alive on Lilias Day and after whom all who were born in the village have been called! This was an opportunity for the Trust to participate in a unique community project. Young ‘Habbies‘ got a chance to throw the shuttle and wind a few pirns on the old loom used by their ancestors. The finished cloth was then given to the tailor who made the full 17th-century costume. On the first Saturday in June 2007, Habbie Simpson’s costume had a real connection with weavers of the past, present and future.
