Weaver's Cottage
|
Weaver’s cottage is a must for anyone tracing ancestors who were linked to the weaving industry as the work of the real weavers can be seen in the loomshop, with a weaver on hand to explain the process.
Weaver’s cottage also holds poll tax and other local information, burial plots and even coffin society records of the parish!
An archaeological dig recently took place here with surprising results…human remains were found in the garden…more information is available in the cottage.
The cottage has a unique collection of around 700 tartan samples handwoven in the village.
There is a small shop which accentuates the cottage. It is one of the few places in Scotland which sells items completely hand woven on a traditional handloom. Cushions, beeswax candles, honey and preserves, and other cottage related products are available…along with our famous wee tartan mice!...handwoven of course!
Dogs are welcome and are allowed in the garden. Please keep dogs on a lead. Water is available.
Free public car park, 100 metres.
