    Threave is 1m W of Castle Douglas

    By bus
    Stagecoach bus number 71 (Dumfries to Castle Douglas) and bus number 72 (Dumfries to Kirkcudbright) both stop at Castle Douglas. It is a one and a half miles walk from Castle Douglas to Threave along the new community path, which starts from Blackpark Road in Castle Douglas and connects up with Threave Estate Trail, following the old railway line.
    Alternatively walk on footpath alongside main road out of Castle Douglas by Carlinwark Loch.  

    By train
    The Glasgow/Newcastle - Stranraer/Ireland First ScotRail line takes you to Dumfries Station. From Dumfries (Whitesands road bus stop next to the river) take Stagecoach bus numbers 71 or 72 to Castle Douglas. It is a one and a half miles walk from Castle Douglas to Threave either following the new community path or the footpath alongside the main road out of Castle Douglas by Carlinwark Loch.

    By bike
    National Cycle Route 7 passes next to Threave. There are bike racks next to the Visitor Centre.

    Circular Estate Trail
    The Circular Estate Trail allows you to walk to all parts of the property by crossing the bust A75 by a pedestrian bridge over to the Wildfowl Reserve and Threave Castle.
