    Green Tourism Award - Bronze

Holmwood House is a large domestic villa, originally built in what was the village of Cathcart. Today that has become part of the city of Glasgow but it is still an oasis of calm although surrounded by the city development.
Originally built for Robert Couper near the site of the family Paper Mills it has passed through several hands before it became a school run by an order of nuns who used the House itself as their convent. After they left, the National Trust for Scotland was able to save the House in 1994 when work began after it had received many generous donations of help.
The restoration of the house continues and the visitor is able to see the work in progress. This year more work has been done to furnish the property to help bring the House to life.
The main special event is Christmas when Santa Claus visits in early December and there is the real feel of a Victorian Christmas.
