    Castle
The castle remains open all year although dark evenings mean that it closes earlier in the winter months. At this time the atmosphere changes and it is easier to imagine the lives of previous generations with only the light of an oil lamp and candles to see them through the long nights. In December the castle will be filled with the sounds of Christmas through the various Christmas events and concerts. From the gallery on the top floor of the castle there are views of autumn colour and the white landscape of Aberdeenshire after snows and frost.

    Gardens
Some parts of the garden will always stay green, irrespective of the time of year. And so it is with the ancient yew hedges that frame the upper parts of the garden, particularly the fountain and rose gardens. Elsewhere, as the intense colours of autumn give way to the starkness of winter, morning frosts will create a different Crathes making it truly, a garden for all seasons.
