New sponsors join the team at Crathes Half Marathon – and cash prize announced
28/06/2012
International oil company Aker Solutions has joined the winning team behind the Crathes Castle Half Marathon as attention turns to the 2012 race.
The company, which has its UK headquarters in Aberdeen, has signed up with event organisers the National Trust for Scotland to sponsor the half marathon for the next three years. It was also confirmed today that a £500 cash prize will be offered to race winners this year.
Aker Solutions’ Managing Director of the subsea business in the UK, Matt Corbin, and David Mackinnon Corporate Relationships Manager for the Trust were joined by Robbie Simpson, the winner of last year’s inaugural Crathes Castle Half Marathon to launch the new partnership.
Runners need to be quick to sign up for the event as there are only 200 places left.
Property Manager Gareth Clingan said:
“We are really pleased that Aker Solutions has joined the team dedicated to establishing the Crathes Castle Half Marathon as a signature event on the Scottish running calendar. In this second year, and with the endorsement of runners of Robbie’s calibre, we are hoping that this year’s race will be even bigger and more competitive. I’m sure that Aker’s extra support will help make the event even more enjoyable for the runners and all our spectators too.”
Matt Corbin said:
“At Aker Solutions we pride ourselves in our commitment to supporting local events and are delighted to be the main sponsor of the Crathes Half Marathon for the next three years.
“It is a quality event for all the family to enjoy and I encourage everyone to get involved.”
The second Crathes Half Marathon takes place on Saturday 15 September at 12 noon. Starting at Crathes Castle, the route will take runners out onto country roads to the north and east of the estate grounds. The mid-way point is almost at another local National Trust for Scotland property – Drum Castle – before the route turns back towards Crathes once more.
Last year’s race was won by Robbie Simpson, top fell runner and National Trust for Scotland volunteer. He finished the course in 1 hour 11mins.
Entry costs £25 per person. To register and for more information visit: www.nts.org.uk/Crathes_Half_Marathon
