Kintail breaks May temperature records
06/06/2012
A weather station on the National Trust for Scotland’s Kintail estate has recorded Scotland’s highest ever May temperature.
The mercury rose to 29.3 degrees centigrade at Achnagart Farm in Wester Ross on 25 May, beating the previously recorded high of 29 degrees centigrade which was recorded in Edinburgh twenty years ago.
This is a contrast to last May in Kintail in 2011 when they had the wettest May ever recorded with 473mm falling.
A magnificent stretch of West Highland scenery - the estate includes the Falls of Glomach and the Five Sisters of Kintail. There is a countryside centre at Morvich Farm, off the A87, which is the best access point to the mountains. Red deer, eagles and other wildlife can be seen in abundance.
Visitors can explore the area on foot or by sea, under the expert guidance of the conservation charity’s expert rangers. For a full programme of walks and sea-kayaking courses, visit www.nts.org.uk.
