The 228 hectares (565 acres) of Country Park surrounding the castle offer a stimulating variety of countryside to explore, including clifftop and woodland walks, a delightful Swan Pond, and many fascinating small buildings contemporary with the castle, such as the Gas House and the Ice House. Children, especially, will enjoy the adventure playground, the Deer Park and the rock pools on the shore. A Visitor Centre and ranger service will enhance your experience of the castle and park, and there are two restaurants on site. Shops are 5 miles away in Maybole or in Ayr, 13 miles away. The beautiful hills and coastline of Ayrshire provide a wide range of attractions. The region is home to over 30 golf courses, including the famous championship link courses of Turnberry, Royal Troon and Old Prestwick. Long sandy beaches at coastal villages such as Maidens, and the fascinating museums and monuments of Burns Country make this an ideal area for visitors.
