The National Trust for Scotland has been working in partnership with The Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB) and The North Ronaldsay Trust who own these properties. The properties are all ex-lighthouse keepers' homes. Letting them as self-catering accommodation not only gives guests the opportunity to stay in these extraordinary, remote and exciting locations, but provides an income for the NLB, NRT and the Trust.

Ardess Lodge & Bunkhouse, Ben Lomond



The newly refurbished Ardess Lodge Bunkhouse provides accommodation for up to ten people. Accommodation comprises two bedrooms, one sleeping four and one sleeping six, plus a large well-equipped dining kitchen and comfortable sitting room with wood-burning stove. There are also two shower rooms, three WCs, and a boot room with drying facilities. Situated at the foot of Ben Lomond, the lodge is ideally placed for hill walking and exploring the wild east side of Loch Lomond, or a great stop off along the West Highland Way.

Mol Mor, Torridon



Part of a converted farm steading at the head of Loch Torridon, Mol Mor provides good-quality basic accommodation for up to ten people. The three bedrooms - two four-bedded and one two-bedded - are fitted with bunk beds. The kitchen is well equipped and there are also showers, a laundry and oil-fired central heating. Visitors must bring their own sleeping bags.

Mol Mor sleeps up to 10 people at £15 per person per night, with a minimum charge of £70 per night for groups of six and under (bookings run Fri-Mon and Mon-Fri).

Mar Lodge, Braemar



Mar Lodge Base Camp is part of a former Stable Block and is situated 4 miles west of Braemar, offering easy access to the Cairngorms. There are four bedrooms - two four-bedded, one two-bedded (all bunk beds) and one room suitable for disabled visitors (two single beds) which includes an en-suite with toilet and shower. The base camp also has a fully-equipped kitchen, sitting room, dining room, drying room, showers, toilets and oil-fired central heating.

Mar Lodge Base Camp sleeps up to 12 people at £15 per person per night, with a minimum charge of £70 per night for smaller groups of six and under. This base camp is wheelchair accessible.

Shore Lodge, Brodick, Isle of Arran



Shore Lodge is a comfortable 14-bed, self-catering group accommodation facility built in 1999. Situated in the grounds of Brodick Castle, Garden and Country Park, the Lodge is ideally positioned for access to the beautiful sandy beach that stretches all the way along to Brodick, and offers great access for hill walking as it is positioned at the foot of Goatfell. Four bedrooms with bunk beds - two two-bedded, one four-bedded and one six-bedded - adjoin a large sitting room with a wood-burning stove, a fully-equipped kitchen and dining room. The Lodge also includes a drying room, four WCs with wash-basins and three showers, one of which is suitable for disabled access. There are also ample storage heaters and a wood-burning stove.

Shore Lodge sleeps up to 14 people at £15 per person per night. There is a minimum charge of £100 per night for smaller groups of six and under. The Lodge is subject to a minimum three-night stay. This base camp is wheelchair accessible.

Kintail Outdoor Centre, Kintail & Morvich, Wester Ross



The centre is situated below Sgurr na Moraich, the last of the famous Five Sisters of Kintail, and Ben Attow (The Long Mountain). These spectacular mountains rise steeply from the shores of Loch Duich, offering some of the best hill walking in Britain. The centre is 5 minutes from the A87 with Glenelg and the Isle of Skye within easy reach.

Kintail Outdoor Centre provides a unique setting as an adventure base, offering unparalleled scope for outdoor pursuits and field studies. Local countryside rangers are on hand to offer advice, introductory talks and guided walks. Up to 20 people can be accommodated in this excellent bunkhouse property. The bunkhouse features five bedrooms with bunk beds - one two-bedded, three four-bedded and one six-bedded - a fully-equipped kitchen, a sitting room with wood-burning stove, a dining room, drying room and laundry. There is also oil-fired central heating and a wood-burning stove.

Kintail Outdoor Centre sleeps up to 20 people at £15 per person per night. There is a minimum charge of £125 per night for smaller groups of ten and under. This base camp is wheelchair accessible.
