About the property:

The centrepiece of this property is the Great Garden, originally laid out in 1675 by Sir Alexander Seton, 1st Baronet of Pitmedden. The elaborate designs, now carefully re-created, were inspired by the garden at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

About the area:

The local villages of Tarves (2 miles) and Methlick (5 miles) offer basic 'corner shop' services. Ellon is the nearest town (8 miles) offering a full range of services including banks, bakers, supermarket, chemist, etc.

Pitmedden offers an ideal base from which to explore Aberdeenshire's rich and varied landscape and heritage, with miles of golden sandy beaches to enjoy, quaint fishing towns and harbours, a wealth of castles and houses, and gentle forest and hill walks. In addition, of course, are all the facilities you would expect from Aberdeen - the Granite City and oil capital of Europe.

Additional Information: This cottage is privately owned. Please note that bookings are restricted to full weeks only (Saturday to Saturday), short breaks are not available at this property. The entry time to the cottage is from 5pm onwards on day of arrival. Parking is available for residents and their guests at the north-west end of the village. Parking in high season can require skill and patience. If the lower car park alongside the village is full, there is additional parking on the road to the village - luggage can be off-loaded at the bottom and taken by wheelbarrow (stored in the back garden).

About the area:

Situated on the Moray Coast, Crovie is a scenic conservation village built on a remarkably narrow ledge between the base of the cliffs forming the east side of Gamrie Bay and the sea. The village comprises around 50 fishing cottages, most of which date back 150 years or more, and is one of the best preserved fishing villages in Europe. There is a pebble beach to the west end of the winding path leading to the next village, Gardenstown, one mile away. Here there is a 17th-century inn, two restaurants and a coffee shop, and a beautiful sheltered beach. The area also has excellent golfing opportunities nearby with over 50 courses in total. Aquarium nearby.

It has great character and charm, particularly in its period features such as the stone-flagged floors and timber ceilings. About the property:

Historic Towie Barclay Castle, some 4 miles south of the market town of Turriff in Aberdeenshire, was built in the 16th century by the Barclay family. The castle lay in ruins until 1971 when an award-winning programme of restoration was carried out by the present owners. It is now privately owned.

The extremely pleasant apartment is located in the Preston and Seton Towers of Fyvie Castle and constructed between four floors with a number of intermediate floors: it is accessed via a spiral staircase. About the property:

Located within extensive grounds, Fyvie Castle is situated just off the A947, and only 26 miles north of Aberdeen. Aberdeen International Airport at Dyce (21 miles) is within comfortable travelling distance. Each of the castle's five towers is reputed to have been built by one of the families who once owned it. The Preston and Seton families built the towers forming the East Wing in the 14th and 17th centuries respectively.

Fyvie Castle is an ideal base for exploring the Aberdeenshire countryside, distilleries, a range of historical sites and is a short drive from the coast. The nearest town is Turriff which provides a good range of shops, restaurants and pubs.
