| Almost all of
our Garden properties have plants for sale in some form or another,
from a few extra annuals sold from the greenhouse to a fully stocked
National Trust for Scotland Plant Centre. We have developed our
own ‘Authentic Gardening’ brand to highlight the plants
we grow ourselves. It is based on a traditional gardener tending
his plants. All the proceeds from our plant centres go towards the
upkeep of our properties. We always carry a great selection of top
quality Scottish grown plants. At our larger sites at Culzean Castle,
Threave Garden, Brodick Castle and Crathes Castle we grow a lot
of our own plants for sale. Many of the varieties are unique to
the Trust or may be named after one of our gardens. A real chance
to buy something a bit different. We also offer regular specials
throughout the season in our larger sites so you’ll be able
to fill a few gaps in your borders for a lot less than you think!
In the Spring we specialise in unusual
bulbs and have a great range of Primulas, Blue poppies (meconopsis)
and often Trilliums for sale. Rhododendrons are another speciality
and many of our gardens are famous for these.
Most of the plant centres are sited near the
shops so they are easy to find and are open at the same times
as the shop. We sometimes run special ‘plant sales days’
where we offer plants from the garden for sale that are not usually
available, or we invite local specialist nurseries to join us
for the day in providing an unbeatable collection of plants. These
will normally be advertised in our events sections.
Seeds:
Inverewe, Branklyn and Threave Garden package their own seeds
from the garden for selling throughout the season. An ideal product
for visitors travelling by coach. We aim to produce the most garden
worthy varieties from our own gardens, including Giant Himalayan
Lily (Cardiocrinum giganteum) and the famous Blue poppies (Meconopsis
betonicifolia).
