Kellie Castle & Garden

Located just 10 miles from St Andrews, Kellie Castle is a delightful gabled 14th-century home. Set in gardens bursting with colour, this is a castle sprung from the pages of history.

Kellie Castle is a very fine example of the domestic architecture of Lowland Scotland. Wandering through the castle, you feel the centuries slip away on a journey of discovery that spans the 14th to the 17th centuries. The building was beautifully restored by the Lorimer family in the late 19th century.

Perhaps most handsome of all is the Great Hall, a misleading name for what is actually an immensely impressive drawing room. Large and imposing, with elegant plasterwork and grand fireplaces, the Great Hall makes a splendid backdrop for drinks receptions for up to 60 guests. In contrast, the adjoining tapestry-hung Dining Room with its painted doors and oak sideboards can seat 22 guests for an intimate dinner. Kellie even has its own tiny chapel (seating 10) that is charming for small family ceremonies. Larger events can take place in a marquee on the lawn by the organic walled garden, with spectacular views over the rolling plains to the Firth of Forth.
