Mar Lodge Estate

A grand country house, originally built as a sporting lodge in the Cairngorms, it now contains five spacious apartments which can accommodate 30 guests. It is set in 29,000 hectares of the most majestic scenery in Scotland, just 5 miles west of Braemar.

The grand surroundings of Mar Lodge still recall the Victorian sporting parties that once gathered here. Originally built for the Duke of Fife in 1895, the Lodge can lay claim, after neighbouring Balmoral, to having had more royal guests than any other household. The wonderful Stag Ballroom, which contains 2,500 stag heads, has been the scene of many memorable occasions.

The Lodge's large public rooms, including the Drawing Room and Dining Room, can host 30 guests for dinner or up to 100 for a drinks reception. To the back of the property you will find the Craggan Room, which can entertain 50 guests for dinner. The five comfortable Adam revival-style apartments can accommodate 30 guests in elegant surroundings, which together with the Billiard Room makes this venue perfect for a corporate retreat or family gathering. The imposing Stag Ballroom is a unique setting for a variety of events, including ceilidhs for 150 and the annual Ghillies Ball. A marquee can be erected on the vast lawns for larger events, and various sporting activities can be arranged.
