Words, words, words! Why not write your own about the 'hidden stories' of the artefacts found on Culloden Moor…
What if the musket balls, the pendants and the shoe buckles we have discovered on Culloden Battlefield could tell us their hidden story?
Too bad that objects can’t talk, but on the other hand, that gives you the opportunity to write your own story about them. Who might have been the boy or girl, the man or woman who lost that button from their jacket, the one with the Stuart thistle on it? How did they lose it? And how did it stay on the field for two hundred years until we found it? We’ll help you fire up your imagination in this workshop if you’re over 6 years old.
During the workshop we will:
-look at the artefacts found on the battlefield
-explore anything that can help us better understand these artefacts
-choose an artefact to focus on
-discuss what makes a good story
-draw up our own storyboard
-look at how to create characters in a story
-share and discuss our initial ideas for a story
At the end of the workshop we hope you’ll start writing your own story about Culloden’s artefacts. And if it’s less than 1500 words, why not submit it to our Creative Writing Competition (the deadline is the 21st of February, the day the Jacobite army captured the Old Fort George in Inverness in 1746).
