    This year is the 500th anniversary of the printed word in Scotland and the Trust is marking the anniversary with an exhibition at N° 28 Charlotte Square, Edinburgh, from 1 August to 31 October. ... More>
    Lasting Impressions: The National Trust for Scotland and the Printed Word features exhibits from Robert Smail’s Printing Works at Innerleithen and literary treasures from our collections.

    There will also be hands-on activities and a series of lunchtime talks on the history and practice of printing.

    Admire Princes Street Gardens with its award-winning floral clock, and be romanced by Edinburgh’s prolific writers. Finally visit 17th century Gladstone’s Land, a typical merchant’s Old Town House.

    Walks start from The Georgian House, 7 Charlotte Square Edinburgh.

    All walks are undertaken by professional Blue Badge Guides of the Scottish Tourist Guides Association.

    Walks daily throughout August at 9.45am or 1.45pm. Duration is 1-1.5 hours.

    Visit the Venetian inspired palace housing the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and view portraits by Allan Ramsay, Henry Raeburn, and David Wilkie.

    Compare the distinguishing features of Old Town and New Town architecture, and visit the National Gallery of Scotland to view the Scottish collection, including fine narrative paintings by other New Town boys such as William Allan and William McTaggart.
