Redcoats
with muskets
This is a modern photograph, taken during the shooting of the film for
the Visitor Centre. Some pupils may identify more closely with photographs
than with drawings or contemporary sketches; however, for some pupils
it may be necessary to stress that this is a photograph of a re-enactment,
rather than of the actual battle.
Pupils can:
- Discuss the uniforms worn by soldiers and compare them
with those worn - by the Jacobites – which do they think are more
practical?
- Soldiers today would not wear such bright colours. What does this tell
us - about the style of fighting that the British army was used to in
those days? (no need for camouflage – all ‘set piece’
battles)
- Discuss the weapons the soldiers are carrying. What do they not have -
which the Jacobites do have? ( targes) What weapons do they have in common?
