The battlefield

There are several features on the battlefield of interest to pupils. Firstly, a network of paths guides visitors over the site. At key points on the battlefield Pathway Panels provide basic information about the events which happened on that spot. Two lines of flags mark the estimated positions of the two armies at the point at which the battle began. Pupils will also see the various commemorative markers, added many years after the battle – the markers of the clan graves, the memorial cairn. Close to the Visitor Centre is the old cottage at Leanach – a reconstruction giving pupils an insight into the type of rural buildings around in the mid-eighteenth century. Hand held digital audio guides may be available for your pupils to use on the battlefield.
