Pre visit materials

Most classes visiting the site will do so as part of ongoing classroom work on the subject The Jacobites /Culloden and the ’45, or broader, cross-cutting themes such as Cause and Conflict. Pupils will gain most from their visit if it takes place towards the end of a programme of work, so that they visit the site with some knowledge and interest, but have enough time afterwards to follow up lines of inquiry stimulated by the visit.

To gain the most from their visit to the site, it is important that before they come, pupils have a good idea of the events leading up to the battle and have at least a basic understanding of the battle site itself. The materials in this section are designed to support context-setting activities in the classroom.
