This programme deals with life in 18th century Britain, and the difficult decisions the nation's people were faced with. Students will investigate, compare and contextualise life at the time of the battle.
Activities include...
- Investigating the lives of people who lived at the time (led by education staff)
- Exploring the decision-making processes the people of the day would have gone through
- Extracting information to share with the larger group (led by education staff)
- Learning about the social context of the 1745 Jacobite uprising
- Exploring the exhibition with a worksheet which investigates the exhibition and prompts them to think critically about the people involved in the battle
- Touring the battlefield to explore the events of the day
- Visiting the Immersion Theatre to experience the feel of the battle
Curriculum for excellence
These programmes are designed with the four capacities in mind. It is also intended to provide an enjoyable experience to the young people participating. Choosing to come to Culloden battlefield will add depth to your chosen topic.
Activities will encourage young people to:
- actively participate
- engage in critical thinking
- contextualise knowledge
- interpret evidence and explore primary sources
- compare and contrast societies
- compare aspects of peoples lives in the past with their own
- discover how past events or actions have shaped Scottish society
- to discuss the impact the battle had on the lives of people at that time
These programs were developed to complement level 2 in the Social studies (People, past events and societies) of the Curriculum for excellence - however it can be adapted to suit your needs.
