Culloden - Learning

Facilities

Parking
If you are arriving by coach, follow the signposts to the car park which is situated beside the new Visitor Centre. Coaches should park in the designated coach bays. Parking for schools is free of charge, and the driver is allowed free entry to the exhibition. Walk from the coach along the walkway, through the main entrance and check in at the main desk where one of our Learning staff or a Living History actor will collect your class.

The Robertson Trust Learning Suite
Within the Visitor Centre is the Robertson Trust Learning Suite. This is a large multi-purpose room which can be used for a range of teaching activities. It includes three computer stations, a digi-projector and screen, weapons and other artefacts for handling and costumes from the time of the battle. There is secure space for hanging coats and storing packed lunches. The Learning Suite is available for eating your packed lunches when you book an educational visit at Culloden. There are toilets (including an accessible toilet) within the Learning Suite as well as within the main centre.

Access to the roof
All Learning groups using the new Visitor Centre will have access to the roof of the centre and its wide views over the moor – useful if weather or time does not permit a full tour of the battlefield.

Access for pupils with disabilities
The Visitor Centre and battlefield at Culloden aim to be accessible for all. and include the following features:

Disabled parking
Dedicated parking bays are available at the nearest parking point to the centre.

Wheelchairs and powered scooters
These are can be borrowed from the centre for use within the building and on the battlefield.

Audio and visual material
The exhibition uses different media to convey the story of Culloden and so those with audio and visual special needs will be able to access the full story. There is an induction loop available in the Robertson Learning Suite.

Battlefield and roof access
The battlefield paths and roof access are wheelchair accessible and suitable for mobility vehicles, prams and buggies.

Accessible toilets
These are available within the centre and within the Learning Suite.

Restaurant
The restaurant is available for school groups to use, but most groups prefer to bring their own packed lunches.

Shop
Many schools want to access our shop. We ask that you allow your pupils to visit in small groups of up to 10, so that the shop is not overcrowded for your group or other visitors.
