This is a special day-long programme which is run in partnership with Historic Scotland. It is a fantastic opportunity to hear both sides of the story of the Jacobite uprising as it features visits to both Culloden and Fort George.
Activities include:
- Half-day tour of Culloden exhibition and battlefield
- Half-day tour of Fort George
- Special presentations by education teams at both sites

Compare and contrast the lives of Hanoverians and Jacobites by investigating the lives of people who lived at the time(led by education staff)
Learn about the social context of the 1745 Jacobite uprising by touring Culloden battlefield and Fort George, exploring the exhibitions at both sites and viewing presentations by education staff
Curriculum for excellence
These programmes are designed with the four capacities in mind. It is also intended to provide an enjoyable experience to the young people participating. Choosing to come to Culloden battlefield will add depth to your chosen topic.
Activities will encourage young people to:
- actively participate
- engage in critical thinking
- contextualize knowledge
- interpret evidence and explore primary sources
- compare and contrast societies
- compare aspects of peoples lives in the past with their own
- discover how past events or actions have shaped Scottish society
- to discuss the impact the battle had on the lives of people at that time
These programmes were developed to complement level 2 in the Social studies (People, past events and societies) of the Curriculum for excellence - however it can be adapted to suit your needs.
