We call at Orkney’s capital, Kirkwall,
from where we can visit the islands’ rich archaeology. Sailing
north we come to Fair Isle, which, despite its far-flung location
and air of peaceful seclusion, is a hive of industry and famous
for its knitwear. In Shetland we will visit both Lerwick, its
capital, and the island of Unst, an area of special interest to
geologists, botanists and birdwatchers. We then visit St Kilda,
one of 24 Dual World Heritage Sites. We hope to land at Village
Bay on Hirta then circumnavigate the archipelago to enjoy its
dramatic scenery and plentiful bird life. Our final call will
be to the Isle of Canna, to explore the archaeology, nature and
landscape of this beautiful island.
Lectuers
Our lecturers will include geologist Professor Geoffrey Boulton,
naturalist John Love and archaeologist Dr Colleen Batey.
Artistes
Our entertainment team will include singer/actress/presenter Isla
St Clair and ‘Scotland the What?’ entertainer George
Donald. We will also be joined by an Orcadian fiddle and accordion
duo and welcome aboard local musicians in Lerwick.
