Find out more about
who makes up the Buildings Department, what we do, and how you
can make invaluable contributions to our work:
Who we are
Caring for the Trust’s portfolio of buildings
are a team of Surveyors and Architectural Technicians led by local
Lead Surveyors, based at the Trust’s four Service Bases
and at Culzean
Castle, Ayrshire.
Also within the Department is the Little
Houses Improvement Scheme (LHIS), staffed by a Manager and
a Project Manager.
What we do
The Department provides guidance and advice
on policy, guidelines, quality and standards to the Trust`s surveyors.
The surveyors oversee the day-to-day care of the buildings, under
management of the Head of Buildings at Central Office.
The Little Houses Improvement Scheme (LHIS)
undertakes to acquire, repair and then sell on neglected and dilapidated
buildings, promoting the renewal and regeneration of once redundant
structures.
The Trust is grateful to Historic Scotland for
funding maintenance on all our buildings of outstanding importance,
through the Annual Repair Grant scheme for ‘A’ listed
buildings and the Historic Buildings Maintenance Fund for ‘B’
and ‘C’ listed buildings.
How you can help
There are many ways in which you can help the
Buildings Department carry out its work. Funding for our conservation
work is largely dependent on membership fees, visitor entrance
fees, donations and legacies. By becoming
a member of the NTS, visiting one of our properties, or by
making
a donation, you will be contributing to our ongoing conservation
work.
Alternatively, why not consider volunteering
for the Trust? Volunteers represent a fundamental support to the
Trust’s work over a wide variety of tasks, from assistants
at our properties to administrative support in our Central Office.
