The Burns 250 Collection - £5000

The Burns 250 Collection allows you to make a donation in memory of a loved one or as a gift. Your donation will pay for the conservation and care of your chosen item. The collection items on this page are still available and each item has a photograph and description to help with your choice.

Once you have identified an item you would like to conserve, please contact our Burns 250 Team who will be happy to arrange for your donation to be processed. A member of the team will arrange for your exclusive certificate, museum recognition and, where appropriate, your museum opening invitation.

We can also accept your payment online. Simply click the donate now button on this page and follow the steps to pay by credit or debit card. A member of the Burns 250 Team will then contact you to arrange for your chosen item, exclusive certificate, museum recognition and, where appropriate, your museum opening invitation.

Souter Johnie's Handguard
Souter Johnie' was the drinking companion of 'Tam o' Shanter'. The character was based on an acquaintance of the Poet, John Davidson (1728-1806). This leather hand guard belonged to Davidson.

Poems Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect, Philadelphia Edition, 1788
This is one of the earliest American editions of Burns's poems. Suggestive of the presence of the Scots in the new United States of America and the spread of Burns's fame across the Atlantic.

First Edition of Poems Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect, Edinburgh Edition
The 3,000 copies of his first Edinburgh edition, of which this is one, sold rapidly and he was popular in Edinburgh Society. The book has become quite rare.

This painting by an unknown artist depicts the 1844 Burns Festival procession, which started in Ayr, then passed over the new and old brigs o' Doon and entered the festival site at Burns Monument.

Manuscript of The Rights of Women - spoken by Miss Fontenelle on her benefit night
'The Rights of Woman' was sent by Burns to Mrs Graham of Fintry on 5th January 1793 with a note appended at the end of the poem. Burns wrote the lines as a prologue to be spoken by the actress Miss Fontenelle on her benefit night on November 26th 1792.

Cairngorm Brooch
This broach belonged to the poet. While living in Dumfries in the latter part of his short life Burns became a member of the local army unit the `Dumfries Volunteers` and was an active participant at its meetings. The Dumfries Volunteers presented this broach to him.
