The National Trust for Scotland could not operate without the financial support we receive from our generous donors. Very few of our properties are able to financially sustain themselves through visitor or endowment income alone. Therefore, there are enormous demands on our general funds to ensure that our properties are kept maintained, accessible and attractive for visitors.

We have to carefully priortise work to undertake vital maintenance so less essential works have to wait. That is why general fund donations in particular are so valuable because we can apply them where the need is greatest.

We love to hear about why properties are special to our supporters and we are very grateful for the donations we receive for specific purposes.

Every year we receive thousands of donations through our appeals or simply because someone has decided to send us a gift or chosen to leave us a legacy. We are sorry we only have space here to acknowledge gifts over £5,000. For the very many smaller donations we receive we are immensely grateful and we thank everyone who has supported the Trust, including those who choose to remain anonymous.

MEMBERS' CENTRES AND FRIENDS' GROUPS

Our Members' Centres and Friends' Groups are an invaluable support to the Trust's work. Some are connected to a specific property and some cover a geographical area. What they all have in common is a strong commitment to the work of the Trust, supporting it both financially and with thousands of volunteer hours. We are sincerely grateful for these very important contributions.

LEGACIES

The Trust is indebted to those who have left a gift in their Will. Those who have gone before have helped preserve Scotland and all its treasures for future generations and we simply could not manage our vital work without it. Gifts are given for specific projects or towards the general work of the Trust. We are only able to list those gifts over £5,000 but to the families and friends of all those who have given through a legacy we give our sincere thanks. In recognition of these gifts, the names are recorded in an In Memoriam book held at Wemyss House in Edinburgh.

You can get more information about leaving a gift to the Trust in your Will here.
