The Council of the National Trust for Scotland is the body that ensures that the Trust complies with its core purposes. It sets our policy and supports the Board in its management of the operations of the Trust.

Made up of elected members and appointees from bodies that the Trust works closely with, it meets 3 times a year, with each meeting lasting a day, to discuss issues of importance to the Trust.

There are 10 vacancies on Council this year. In accordance with the constitution, three members of the Trust have been proposed and seconded by members. There will therefore not be a ballot, and the Trust has pleasure in welcoming the following members to Council:

David retired from Glasgow University in 2001 after completing four years as Vice-Principal with responsibility for the university estate and the physical sciences. During his academic career he has served as Head of the Civil Engineering Department and Dean of Engineering at Glasgow University and held research appointments at University of California, Berkeley and The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. Although born in Derby, he has lived and worked for most of his life in Scotland. Retirement has provided the time to become involved in the Glasgow Art Club, the Glasgow West Conservation Trust and the National Trust for Scotland but his and Maggie's greatest joys are their two grandchildren and time at their cottage on the west coast where he grows wonderful vegetables.
