The Trust produces policies and guidance to aid the work of its staff and volunteers. Policy documents deal with specific subjects or issues which aim to achieve a consistent approach across the spectrum of the Trust's work and ensure delivery of its statutory purposes - conservation, access, enjoyment and education.

The Trust works with other organisations to develop and promote its views on policy issues. Two such bodies are the umbrella body for environmental Non Governmental Organisations, Scottish Environment LINK, and Built Environment Forum Scotland (BEFS), a similar umbrella group for organisations working to promote and protect Scotland’s built environment.
